The Inner Hebridean island of Coll’s most recent airfield replaced Totronald in 1975 for Loganair flights. Ballard Farm briefly closed in 1990, reopening the following year but only as an unlicensed airstrip, and subsequent protracted planning thinking ensured that Coll Airport only became licensed in August 2008 for airline services connecting with Oban and Tiree. The new hard runway exists fractionally to the north of the original grass runway and runs broadly north-south instead of east-west but this is essentially the same site, with an access track running across the old runway to the terminal building alongside the B8070 road.
