Various fighter types of No 50 Squadron initially had Leigh Green available to them as a Home Defence landing ground during World War One. By the autumn of 1918 control had switched to No 112 Squadron for its Sopwith Camels to be able to use this site, these aircraft remaining in service after the end of fighting.
