Huyton Hill was unusual in being the first airfield in Britain to be run by a school, in this case a preparatory school of the same name. From February 1933 it also served as an Automobile Association registered civil landing ground. The school closed in the 1960s but the airfield now forms part of the Lord Derby Academy.
