Bawtry was an Automobile Association registered civil landing ground during the 1930s. It also served as a private airfield for high-ranking RAF officer and prominent businessman Harald Peake. There was no connection other than the name with nearby future World War Two airfield Bircotes, originally known as Bawtry until June 1942.
