Auldbar was a mooring-out station for anti-submarine patrol non-rigid airships from Longside. The precise position of this airfield remains not too clear but it was certainly sited at the time in Montreathmont Forest. Briefly originally known as Montrose until being partly renamed after a railway station to avoid confusion, Auldbar saw activity in the final months of World War One, after which peacetime brought swift closure as with all other similar supportive airfields engaged in this role.
