Airco DH6s of Nos 551 and 512 (Special Duty) Flights transferred as part of No 253 Squadron to Foreland from Brading in August 1918 to continue flying anti-submarine patrols. This landplane element of the squadron, which also operated from the seaplane base at Bembridge, disbanded on 21 January 1919 and the airfield is now covered by houses.
