Winkleigh green energy row starts
The largest biogas power station in Europe is planned to be sited on the remote Devon airfield of Winkleigh. Disused since shortly after World War Two, the South West Regional Development Agency has purchased this site for £412,000 so that material from trees to municipal waste may be burned. This overall project is scheduled to cost £43 million but heavy opposition is coming from local residents and larger concerns. A development appeal is pending.
