Tangmere’s fellow member of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ Battle of Britain elite made it a memorable day for thousands of visitors on August 20th 2006 with a great show.
The venerable Essex airfield has suffered a tough time of extreme uncertainty due to proposed housing expansion of Harlow New Town. Pressure has not yet completely lifted but the situation is somewhat improved: nearby Hunsdon and Sawbridgeworth have also escaped annihilation for the time being.
ABCT attended as a special guest along with the Royal Norwegian Air Force. Foreign links date back to World War Two and two General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcons joined past and present personnel as they made a sizeable donation towards a planned stained glass window earmarked for the nearby museum.
North Weald remains as ever a fascinating place with its wide array of building designs spanning many decades. Certain structures have indeed appeared from elsewhere such as two T2 hangars from Chipping Ongar and continue to provide excellent service in various capacities.
