Excluding a tiny handful of modern airports with sometimes more questionable alternative titles, Andrews Field remain one of only two airfields in Britain to be named as a tribute after individual people. Lieutenant-General Frank M. Andrews served as original leader of the US 8th Air Force until he was killed in an aircraft crash in Iceland on May 3 1943. "
